A church of the ancient western tradition
At Christ Lutheran Church, we gather each week, as Christians have done for thousands of years, to receive God’s gifts through His Word and Sacraments and to grow in faith and love. Our worship is historic, biblical, and focused on the forgiveness and hope found in Jesus Christ.
Whether you are exploring Christianity or looking for a church home, you are welcome here.
FAQs
What should I wear?
There is no dress code. Many people wear anything from casual clothing to traditional Sunday attire. We are a community of farmers, so you’re likely to see some overalls now and then.
What if I don’t know how to participate in or follow along with the service?
That is absolutely okay. Depending on your history, our service will either seem very familiar or very foreign. Some of the hymns may be new to you as well. Although it might all seem strange at first, we follow a well-structured and set pattern for worship, one that closely follows the ancient worship of the western Church. We provide bulletins with an outline of the service, and hymnals are available in every pew so you can follow along. After a few Sundays, you’ll begin to become familiar with and appreciate the richness of the historic liturgy of the Lutheran church.
Do I need to be Lutheran to attend?
Not at all. People from all backgrounds are welcome to visit and learn.
What about communion?
Communion, sometimes called the Lord’s Supper, the Sacrament of the Altar, or the Eucharist, is the high point of every Divine Service. The Lutheran Church, and indeed all Christian churches until the 19th century, followed the biblical practice sometimes called “Closed Communion”. This means that in our church only those who have been instructed, examined, absolved, and publicly confess our faith can receive Communion with us. In short, only active members in good standing of a Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod congregation will be given Communion.
If you are a visitor and are not an active member of a Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod congregation, please speak to Pastor Campbell before the service to let him know. If you have any questions about this practice, feel free to speak to Pastor Campbell or click here to learn more.
Are children welcome?
Yes. Children and families are always welcome in worship. We love to have them with us.
We understand that children can at times be fussy and noisy, and that is okay. Parents should not feel embarrassed if their child becomes noisy during the service. If parents need a place for their children to calm down, we have a narthex and a basement available. A changing table is available in the narthex bathroom.
We do not have a separate service or sermon for children because children are members of the one body of Christ and are recipients with adults of all the promises of Christ.
